major vorpx issues.

I've tried all the troubleshooting from vorpx, vorpx forums etc but cannot get GTA V or any game it supports, to work with vorpx correctly. There is no "beta vorpx" that should show when I start the game, it's like a monitor is strapped to my face, with two screens, one different in each eye with no headtracking, no vorpx menu etc.

ANY ideas? it's driving me crazy. ive tried disabling anti virus, uninstalled fraps, msi afterburner etc.

im on windows 7, rift is updated and latest vorpx.

Also "vorpx stereo driver control crashes on startup, each time. the vorpxcontrol64.dat is not in processes.

Another Kickstarter for a phone based VR viewer, this time with a Sony Morpheus like head mount

FULLDIVE just posted that they are preparing another phone based HMD Kickstarter for May, starting at USD 49, to be delivered in September. Their website contains a lot of marketing blah, no technical details and some inconsistent renderings, from these it seems that it will include a magnet switch, so probably no fancy external bluetooth controller/gyro like the XG HMD or Cmoar HMD.

The most interesting part is that instead of using head straps, which press the HMD against the face, the phone is suspended from a fixed frame sitting on the forehead and distributing the weight over the top of the head. The weight is very high with 628g, but this is less of a problem due to the type of construction that was first seen in Project Morpheus, the VR HMD announced for the Playstation 4.

The pressure required to keep an HMD with head straps in place can cause discomfort after longer use sessions, so it is very understandable that Sony tries to solve this for a game console accessory, but as anything phone based that doesn't involve Oculus will have to use Cardboard software, and with Google now taking extra measures to make sure Cardboards are only used for what they call "bite sized VR", it probably isn't as useful for a phone based VR viewer.

It is an interesting concept nonetheless, and the team "consists of engineers and product designers from Google X and Tesla", so maybe they will come up with something that is more exciting than the other HMDs we've seen so far. The window for getting phone based VR HMDs crowd financed is closing, as the Mattel VR Viewmaster with "Works with Google Cardboard" compatibility will come out in October 2015 for USD 29.99, which will set a reference price for improved Cardboard versions.

Simulating 3 screens in VR ?

Virtual Desktop and Vorpx, let you play non VR games on a big screen in a virtual environment , which is really cool , especially with 3D !! So i was thinking ... why wouldn't we have the same simulation but for a 3 screen setup ?? i mean, it would be interesting for those (like me) who have never played on a 3 monitors setup, to be able to test it , especially for sim racing (but not only .. even GTA 5 is 3 screens compatible) !! Of course it wouldn't make any sense to try a native game like Assetto Corsa of course, it will never be as immersive as in real VR mode ... but for other racing games that are not vr compatible ... i'm sure it would be just awesome :) what do you think ?

Having problems with tracking or so I think...

Okay so I installed the runtime and plugged in the hardware and when i start the demo that is in the config tool my image seems to double whenever i move my head and the movement is jerky on oculus but not on my primary screen where the tracking works just fine.

My card is ati hd5970. Maybe i cant hit the 75 fps mark? I tried to search for a similar situation and tried the extended mode and some other stuff but none of it works. How should i start troubleshooting this.

Help greatly appreciated!

GTA V with vorpx problem

Hi, I'm totally new to Vorpx and I'm having a little bit of trouble with GTA V (apart from the too small fov problem). The first time I tried it seemed that I could get around without using the gamepad's right stick (view control).

Now I played with a bunch of things and the left stick only moves the character left/right/forward/backward. This means the only way to go back on my steps is to turn my head 180° and move forward with the stick. Not very convenient.

edit: I'm not sure I'm being very clear. Right now, the left stick feels like it's controlling x,y on the floor. Before, it felt like it was controlling the body and the oculus was the head. Meaning when i turned my head and then turned the body, the view would move too so that I could play without having to turn my head 180°.

So hard to put into words.

Final cost is $1350 since I'm starting from scratch with monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS, etc. Relying on Amazon where I can due to Prime shipping, Amazon's $70 card promo, and ability to use credit card points.

I'm slowly getting back into PC gaming after years with a Mac and Xbox. It's going to be running Heroes of the Storm, League, CS:GO and a few other FPSes. I'm looking for high settings and a rock solid framerate, but I'm not a performance junkie. I'm definitely interested in messing around with Oculus on this thing when it comes out, so I want some future proofing for that. Ideally this would last ~5 years or so. My main concern is that I'm overbuying in some spots relative to the performance of other stuff.

It's possible I'd do some software development and video editing, but nothing so serious I'd tune a build for it. I'd likely want to add a Linux partition onto the SSD if possible though.

The Room - 1/10

This one is either a 1 or a perfect 10 depending on what you watch films for. In my case, I watch film to be entertained, sure, but first and foremost, I watch it to see artistic quality. When it comes to The Room, it certainly delivers entertainment, but it's only because of its blatant disregard for all that makes film great. Quality acting, directing, writing, cinematography, production design, and editing, are all left behind in this tale of love, deceit, and I am honestly not sure what else. While it delivers many laughs, it is at its own expense, as the comedy is to be found not in the quality comedic writing, but in the acting and horrendous dramatic writing. A serious film, this one could be mistaken to be a comedy if you did not know better. Really, the best quality brings to the table is an additional running joke for you to have with anybody you watch it with. Thus, I recommend gathering a group of friends together, popping some popcorn, and sitting back and enjoying everything that makes The Room the film it is. Honestly the worst film I have ever seen, but probably one of the most entertaining and rewarding experiences of my life.

Birdman - 8/10

Birdman is one unique film. A riveting character study from beginning to end, Birdman features many, many positives that make it deserving of the acclaim it received. Firstly, the cinematography is impeccable, as are the editing and soundtrack. The acting from Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Naomi Watts, and everyone else, is great. The casting and the way the characters almost match the actors playing them was also an awesome little touch. The direction from Alejandro Gonzalez Innarritu is also very good, as is the writing. Ultimately, Birdman is a tale of a man trying to regain past glory and dealing with his own high expectations for himself. Though, to say I understand this one is far off from the truth. In fact, I found it quite confusing. All the same, Birdman is a great film that really succeeds on the back of its many strong features and touching romantic/familial elements.

The Sandlot - 6/10

Overall, The Sandlot is not very good. The writing is poor, there are largely only child actors who are decent at their strongest, the adults are poor actors, and it's generally just poorly made. However, The Sandlot is just extremely enjoyable for people of any age and really makes you feel nostalgic about childhood and those care free days of years past. Aside from that, this one offers little in the way of quality.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - 9/10

An incredible blend of romance, comedy, science fiction, and drama, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is an incredible film. Director and writer Charlie Kaufman continues to prove why he is one of the most talented people in Hollywood with this one as the direction and writing are both perfect. The entire cast is great, but especially Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, and Kirsten Dunst. The cinematography and limited special effects here are also pitch perfect. A meditation on love and memory, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a film that sees a man learn he can erase the memory of a girl from his past and forget they ever had anything and after learning she has done the same to him, he opts to go for it, but quickly discovers that he does not want to go through it.

spoilers Overall, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind argues that it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. Though love hurts and the end of it can leave you broken, the good memories and even the bad ones are part of who you are and, as such, are invaluable. If they just did not happen, you would lose a major piece of yourself. The nonlinear narrative of the story also poses an interesting question on the repeating nature of love and history as a whole. If we are unaware of it, we are doomed to repeat it. Finally, the film argues that though love may hurt and leave us with sad memories and "scars", it is ultimately worth it it, because of the good they can cause. end spoilers

As a whole, those reasons and more are what make Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind such a fantastic film and one that is sure to touch you in some way.

Dark City - 5/10

Dark City is a great film in some areas and a bad film in others. The strongest thing this one brings to the table is the concept. Entirely riveting in that regard, the world created by Alex Proyas is a very interesting one worthy of being evaluated further. The lighting and production design here are great and the acting all-around is stellar. So, then why did I not like it? Well, the writing left much to be desired. The way the story came together and was written took the concept and world created and made it seem boring and worthless. The good acting and direction was wasted on pretty poorly done dialogue. I still appreciate all the positives in this one and wish the end result was better, but sadly, it was not. As a whole, I was expecting a lot more in terms of thrills and drama from this one, but all I saw was a screenplay fumble a great idea and tear down the rest of the movie with it. The positives make this one worth watching though, which is more than you can say for a lot of movies.

Oculus - 8/10

Oculus certainly surprised me. The beginning is a bit slow as it starts to get into the swing of things, but the man, once it kicks in, it really kicks in. Absolutely terrifying, Oculus takes an interesting premise and knocks it out of the park thanks to strong writing, direction, special effects, and acting. It can get a little silly at times, but horror movies of this kind require some kind of "leap of faith" and while you can easily poke holes in a lot of things, it kind of defeats the purpose of watching the movie. Ultimately, horror is supposed to scare you and this one delivers those scares, as well as a killer mood that really sucks you in with a sense of dread that is evident throughout. I also hate gore, so I am glad this one had little to no gore and instead tried to scare you through its mood and effects, which is what I prefer. As a whole, I am not sure why the audience was so lukewarm to this one, since I found it really entertaining and quite well made. Overall, Oculus is a fun watch that couples scares with good production elements to make the ideal film.

This is a serious question.

Are they trying to convince us of their point of view? Are they just in it for the harassment? Do the Commercial (VRcade) advocates feel that at-home VR is not credibly done, or do they just hate Oculus in general?

Thinking about starting a guild for oculus dk1/dk2 players. What do you think?

So I'm not sure if anyone has heard or even attempted the most recent vorpx 3d driver / oculus dk2 headset / ESO yet, but I have. It is incredible. Stereoscopic 3d, head tracking, and there are true FOV adjustments to 120 degrees through ESO game settings to make it perfect.

The only bummer is lack of voice chat. I would be willing to host some sort of vc server for a guild of vr headset users specifically. I'm just wondering what the demand for it will be before I officially offer anything. How many of you ESO redditors with oculus vr headsets are there out there? How many of you would want to get into a virtual reality centric guild? This is all beta hardware and drivers with oculus. The demand for a truly playable mmorpg through the rift is enormous. Thanks to vorpx and ESO dropping the subscription fee, I think we may have a winner!

This is just a little project I ran across on steam GL and it really reminded me of "Luckies tale" but less generic and better story. Why hasn't somebody made a post with an extremely vague title and then when the post reaches the front page they change all the text so that the comments all seem ridiculous? I would find that hilarious.
