Let's Talk - Motion Sickness in FPS Games

FPS games are the top selling AAA of 2D gaming. Big money. But in VR they result in serious motion sickness. Let's talk.

Suggestion: It is the sudden motion that causes nausea (infinite acceleration). That is why when in vehicle games there is little to no nausea, all vehicles build up speed. It's only when you get instant speed changes like in FPS games that nausea starts. The bigger the difference in speed the more nausea (half life 2 for example is worse).

Idea: What if FPS games had inertia? would you still get sick? so instead of hit W and instantly run at full speed, there is a little build up of speed...like mirrors edge. I propose that as a solution and invite discussion.

Random questions:

How difficult would it be to add inertia to half life 2 VR?

What is the maximum acceleration that does not cause motion sickness?

Is the maximum acceleration for no motion sickness related to the 75FPS minimum frames requirement for no motion sickness?

Can someone make a quick unity FPS demo with and without inertia for testing?

Do you agree with the idea?
