So I built my last pc 9 years ago, and it ran everything I threw at it for 5 years, but I went to uni for 4 years and didnt need anything high powered, I'm now finished and doing a PhD that will involve graphics processing, oculus, opencv, opengl, unity, haptics, etc etc. I also want it for high end gaming, so do I pay through the nose now for a system that will last at least 3 years, must last that long, ideally I'd want it to last 4-5, or do it rather cheaply now and upgrade along the way. So for example do I spend £1200 on this:

(Also if I'm spending this, I want a beauty ;), hence the windowed case, palit, vengeance. Black and gold)
But if I go for components that are a tier lower than these, i5, ~£120 mobo, 8gb Ram, ~£30 case etc etc, knock off about £400, will those stand the test of time in relation to price?
I know you'll never have a top tier pc as new components get released all the time, but £1200 will be a big hit for at xmas, so I just trying to way up the pros and cons.
Or does anyone have any suggestions to this?
